In the biological sense, an adult animal or human is a person who has matured. Adults are social concepts and also a legal notion within the world of humans. As opposed to someone not considered an adult or "minor", the legal adult has reached majority making them self-sufficient, capable, and responsible. The term "major" can be applied to these individuals. The general consensus is that the age at which a person becomes a legal adult is 18.
